Special Issue ICABD 2014 & StringMasters Spring 2014 - Call for Papers

=============================================
Mathematics in Computer Science
Special Issue on Algorithms for Big Data
=============================================

SCOPE
-----
After the ICABD 2014 Conference (http://algorithms-for-big-data.org/) and StringMasters Spring 2014 workshop (http://stringmasters.unipa.it/) to be shortly held in Palermo, we are happy to announce a special issue of Mathematics in Computer Science devoted to them.
The special issue is motivated by the desire to give people who will present their contributes at the 2nd International Conference on Algorithms for Big Data as well as the participants to the Spring 2014 edition of StringMasters workshop the opportunity to publish extended papers on their work. Beside ICABD 2014 extended contributions and StringMasters Spring 2014 outcomes, any original paper fitting the present Call for Papers will be adequately considered for publication. Same as the ICABD conference, this special issue main topics are the application of mathematical theories and methods to big data, primarily collections of biological sequences such as DNA/RNA and proteomic sequences. A list of representative topics follows.

1. Mathematical methods for sequence matching, sequence compression, and information retrieval;
2. Algorithms for sequence indexing, approximate indexing, and compressed indexing;
3. In place data structures, space conscious data structures, and external memory algorithms;
4. Mathematical results with applications in bioinformatics problems;
5. Combinatorial aspects of biological sequences and collections;
6. Algorithms and data structures for repetition discovery and motif recognition;
7. Mathematical methods for fragment assembly, reads reassembly, and genome alignments;
8. Mathematical methods for phylogenetic trees construction and comparison;
9. Combinatorial measures of sequence similarity.

SSS is an international forum for researchers and practitioners in the
design and development of distributed systems with self-* properties such as
self- stabilizing, self-configuring, self-organizing, self-managing,
self-repairing, self-healing, self-optimizing, self-adaptive, and
self-protecting. Research in distributed systems is now at a crucial point
in its evolution, marked by the importance of dynamic systems such as
peer-to-peer networks, large-scale wireless sensor networks, mobile ad hoc
networks, robotic networks, opportunistic networks etc. Moreover, new
applications such as grid and web services, banking and e-commerce, e-health
and robotics, aerospace and avionics, automotive, industrial process
control, etc. have joined the traditional applications of distributed
systems. We particularly encourage the submissions spanning these areas of
applications.

The conference provides a wide spectrum of topics, covered in the following
tracks:
* Self-stabilization
* Fault-tolerant and Dependable Systems
* Formal Methods, Safety, and Security
* Ad-hoc, Sensor and Mobile Networks, Cyberphysical Systems
* Cloud Computing, P2P, Self-organizing and Autonomous Systems

IMPORTANT DATES
* Abstract Submission: April 21, 2014 (UTC-12)
* Paper Submission: April 24, 2014 (UTC-12)

PAPER SUBMISSION
? Papers must be prepared using the LNCS style and be electronically
submitted in PDF format using EasyChair
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sss2014). Two types of papers
can be submitted: Regular Papers and Brief Announcements. Submissions for
regular papers should be no longer than 15 pages (including the title,
authors, abstract, figures, and references) in LNCS style; a submission may
have an appendix of at most two pages beyond the 15 page limit. Brief
announcements are restricted to two pages using the LNCS style, with no
appendix. Submissions deviating from these guidelines will be rejected
without consideration of their merits. If requested by the authors, a
regular submission that is not selected for a regular presentation will also
be considered for a brief announcement. This request must be clearly
indicated in the first page of the paper. Such a request will not affect
consideration of the paper for a regular paper. A paper submitted at this
forum is expected to be original research not previously published. A
submission may not be concurrently submitted to another conference,
workshop, or journal.

PUBLICATION
? The proceedings of the conference will be published in the Springer Verlag
Lecture? Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. Selected papers will be
published in the Journal of Self-Computing
(http://www.worldscientific.com/worldscinet/jsc).

BEST PAPER AND BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARDS?
??The program committee will select two papers for best paper and best
student paper awards. A paper is eligible for the best student paper award

The 9th International Symposium on Parameterized and Exact Computation
(IPEC 2014) covers research in all aspects of parameterized/exact
algorithms and complexity. Papers presenting original research in the
area are sought, including but not limited to: new techniques for the
design and analysis of parameterized and exact algorithms,
fixed-parameter tractability results, parameterized complexity theory,
relationship between parameterized complexity and traditional complexity
classifications, applications of parameterized and exact computation,
and implementation issues of parameterized and exact algorithms. In
particular, studies on parameterized and exact computations for
real-world applications and algorithmic engineering are especially
encouraged.
