The Brain Work Research Centre at the Finnish Institute of
Occupational Health is seeking for a
SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Your task is to lead research on computational data analysis and to
devise new computational methods and build expertise that benefit the
research and services for the needs of the future work life. You will
advance the exploitation of the heterogenous data sets that have been
and are being collected at the institute, including data sets related
to physiology, health, cognition, work environment, and spanning
measurements from laboratories to work places. You will be responsible
for national and international research collaboration in the topic of
the position. You will apply for funding, lead research projects as
well as supervise students and other more junior staff members. You
may participate to education and teaching within area of your
expertise.

We require a doctoral degree in computer science or other suitable
discipline, as well as thorough understanding of computational data
analysis. The senior research scientist should have a track record
after the doctoral degree of successful collaboration in international
multidisciplinary environment as well as of applying for research
funding, managing projects, and collaboration with companies. We
require excellent communication skills in written and spoken
English. We may decide to hire a specialist research scientist (more
junior position, doctoral degree required) for the said position, if
the candidate is suitable but does not yet qualify for a senior
research scientist position.

The position is tenured, with a four month probation period. The
Senior Research Scientist is an academic track position, roughly
equivalent to associate professor in a typical university career
system. The location of work is in Meilahti, Helsinki.

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) is a research and
specialist organization that promotes occupational health and safety
and the well-being of workers. It is an independent institution under
public law, functioning under the administrative sector of the
Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. FIOH has six regional offices,
and its headquarters are in Helsinki. The Brain Work Research Centre
(BWRC) at FIOH studies how brain and senses function and how this is
influenced by human and work related factors. One of the focus areas
of the BWRC is the study of human information processing in the modern
and future ICT environments.
