Project overview: The goal is to provide simulation and optimization
models for transportation under new paradigms. Outputs of this project
should contribute to state-of-the-art mathematical models, reflecting
new specificities arising under this paradigm, as well as with off-
and on-line optimization algorithms to handle these problems.

*Updated news:*

Upon numerous requests, the submission deadline is postponed to January 10,
2017.

Post-symposium tutorial/workshop will be arranged in Hakodate/Muroran on
June 24-26, 2017.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 14th International Symposium on Neural Networks (ISNN 2017) will be
held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan during June 21-23, 2017, following the
successes of previous events. Located in northern island of Hokkaido,
Sapporo is the fourth largest Japanese city and a popular summer/winter
tourist venue. ISNN 2017 aims to provide a high-level international forum
for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the art of
neural network research and applications in related fields. The symposium
will feature plenary speeches given by world renowned scholars, regular
sessions with broad coverage, and special sessions focusing on popular
topics.

Authors are invited to submit full-length papers by the submission deadline
through the online submission system. The submission of a paper implies
that the paper is original and has not been submitted under review or is
not copyright-protected elsewhere and will be presented by an author if
accepted. All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field
based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity.
Papers presented at ISNN 2017 will be published in the EI-indexed
proceedings in the Springer LNCS series and selected good papers will be
included in special issues of several SCI journals.

*Important Dates*

Extended Paper submission deadline: January 1, 2017 January 10, 2017

Notification of acceptance: February 1, 2017

Camera-ready copy and author registration: March 1, 2017

Conference: June 21-23, 2017

There are several PhD scholarships in Mathematics available at the University of Birmingham (UK). In particular, we are keen to attract strong PhD students in Combinatorics/Discrete Mathematics.

Information about the Combinatorics group at the University of Birmingham can be found at

http://web.mat.bham.ac.uk/combinatorics/

Informal enquiries should be directed e.g. to Daniela Kuhn (d.kuhn@bham.ac.uk) or Deryk Osthus (d.osthus@bham.ac.uk)

In order to be considered for a PhD scholarship, candidates have to ensure that their online application is complete (i.e. both referee reports have been uploaded as well) by 20 February 2017. However, we strongly encourage applicants to apply as early as possible.

Information how to apply can be found at

http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/mathematics/phd/phd.aspx

Call for Papers

Scaling up machine-learning (ML), data mining (DM) and reasoning algorithms
from Artificial Intelligence (AI) for massive datasets is a major technical
challenge in the times of "Big Data". The past ten years has seen the rise
of multi-core and GPU based computing. In parallel and distributed
computing, several frameworks such as OpenMP, OpenCL, and Spark continue to
appear to facilitate scaling up ML/DM/AI algorithms using higher levels of
abstraction. We invite novel works that advance the trio-fields of ML/DM/AI
through development of scalable algorithms or computing frameworks. Ideal
submissions would be characterized as scaling up X on Y, where potential
choices for X and Y are provided below.

Scaling up

recommender systems
gradient descent algorithms
deep learning
sampling/sketching techniques
clustering (agglomerative techniques, graph clustering, clustering
heterogeneous data)
classification (SVM and other classifiers)
SVD
probabilistic inference (bayesian networks)
logical reasoning
graph algorithms and graph mining

On

Multi-core architectures/frameworks (OpenMP)
Many-core (GPU) architectures/frameworks (OpenCL, OpenACC, CUDA, Intel TBB)
Distributed systems/frameworks (GraphLab, MPI, Hadoop, Spark, Storm, Mahout
etc.)

Journal publication

Selected papers from the workshop will be published in a Special Issue of
Future Generation Computer Systems, Elsevier's International Journal of
eScience. Special Issue papers will undergo additional review.

Awards
Best Paper Award: The program committee will nominate a paper for the Best
Paper award. In past years, the Best Paper award included a cash prize.
Stay tuned for this year!

Travel awards:Students with accepted papers have a chance to apply for a
travel award. Please find details on the IEEE IPDPS web page.
