*************************************************************************************

Submission Deadline: Feb 6, 2015
Selected best papers of McM'2015 will be considered for publication in
a special issue
of the Wiley's journal of Concurrency and Computation: Practice and
Experience (CC-PE).

-----------------------------------------
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
-----------------------------------------
Plenty of hard problems in a wide range of application areas,
including engineering design,
telecommunications, logistics, etc. have been modelled and tackled
successfully with
metaheuristics (evolutionary algorithms, scatter or swarm search,
simulated annealing,
abu search, etc.). Nowadays, optimization problems become increasingly
large and complex,
forcing the use of parallel computing for their efficient and
effective resolution. On the
other hand, parallel computing has recently undergone a significant
evolution in terms of
performance and energy consumption with the emergence of multi-core
and many-core
computing technologies (GPU, MIC, etc.). Indeed, accelerators and
coprocessors have powered
many parallel and/or distributed environements including
high-performance workstations,
hybrid clusters among them the top ranked Top500 and Green500 ones,
and computational
grids and clouds. The design and implementation of parallel
metaheuristics for the above
environments raise several issues related in the same time to the
characteristics of these
hardware execution machines and those of the parallel models of
metaheuristics. This
workshop seeks to provide an opportunity for the researchers to present original
contributions on the joint use of advanced (discrete or continuous,
single or multi-objective,
static or dynamic, deterministic or stochastic, hybrid) optimization
methods and distributed
and/or parallel multi/many-core computing, and any related issues.

-----------------------------------------
TOPICS INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
-----------------------------------------
- Parallel models (island, master-worker, multi-start, etc.) for metaheuristics
revisited for multi-core and/or many-core (MMC) environments.
- Parallel mechanisms for hybridization of metaheuristics on MMC environments.
- Implementation of parallel metaheuristics on MMC workstations, MMC
clusters, MMC
grids/clouds, etc.
- Software frameworks for the design and implementation of parallel
and/or distributed
MMC metaheuristics.
- Computational/theoretical studies reporting results on solving
challenging problems
using MMC computing.
- Performance metrics for MMC parallel and/or distributed metaheuristics.
- Energy-aware optimization for/with MMC parallel and/or distributed
metaheuristics.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Framework for Random Metric Spaces

Large-scale optimization problems show up in many domains, such as
engineering, scheduling, economics, but also, e.g., in the sciences.
Unfortunately, finding optimal solutions within reasonable time is often
impossible because the problems that have to be solved are
computationally intractable. Because of this, optimization problems are
nowadays often attacked using ad-hoc heuristics. Many such heuristics
show a remarkable performance, but their theoretical (worst-case)
performance is poor - worst-case analysis is often too pessimistic to
reflect the performance observed. In order to explain the performance of
heuristics, probabilistic analysis is the method of choice, where
performance is analyzed with respect to random instances.

The instances of many optimization problems involve, implicitly or
explicitly, a metric space. This can be physical distances, but also,
e.g., costs for travel or transportation. Up to now, however,
probabilistic analysis of algorithms is almost exclusively restricted to
Euclidean instances or the distances are drawn independently,
disregarding the metric nature. Both approaches fall short of explaining
the average-case performance of heuristics on general metric instances.

Our goal is to develop and apply a framework for random metric spaces.
We want to develop models for random metric spaces, study their
properties, and apply these findings to explain the observed performance
of heuristics for optimization problems. The goal is to obtain more
conclusive insights about performance than with the traditionally used
models, and to use the insights obtained to design better algorithms.

Call For Papers - EJOR Featured Cluster

Recent Advances in Exact Methods
for Multi-Objective Optimisation
********************************************************

*Motivation*

The development of exact methods for multi-objective optimisation (MOO)
is experiencing renewed interest in the OR community as witnessed by the
growing body of research emerging in that domain. Recent advances in the
development of nonlinear, linear and mixed-integer programming solvers
push the boundaries towards more challenging areas (including, e.g.
global, bi-level and uncertain optimisation problems). Hence solving to
optimality larger, more difficult real-world problems involving several
conflicting objectives has been put within reach. Also, researchers
previously working in single-objective optimisation are increasingly
contributing to the fast progress of the development of exact
multi-objective optimisation algorithms. In this featured cluster we
solicit original and high-quality papers presenting the latest research
in the field of exact algorithms for multi-objective mixed integer,
linear and non-linear programming, exact methods for MOO under
uncertainty, as well as heuristics derived from exact methods for MOO.

*Contents*

The purpose of this featured cluster is to increase the visibility of
exact methods for MOO and to motivate a broader group of researchers to
contribute to the field. We will consider high-quality manuscripts
addressing the development of new theoretical insights, algorithmic
approaches and computational studies in the context of exact methods for
MOO.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

- multi-objective branch-and-bound algorithms
- multi-objective branch-and-cut algorithms
- column generation and branch-and-price algorithms for MOO
- mixed-integer (non)-linear MOO
- stochastic MOO
- robust MOO
- continuous non-linear MOO
- objective space algorithms
- heuristic methods derived from exact methods for MOO
- complexity analysis and worst case behaviour of MOO algorithms

Although we strongly encourage the submission of papers presented at the
workshop "Recent Advances in Multi-Objective Optimization"
(moo.univie.ac.at), this Call for Papers is open to the entire community
of academics and practitioners working in the field of multi-objective
optimisation.

*Submission*

Prospective authors are asked to follow the EJOR guide for authors and
submit their papers from April 1, 2015 via the EES
(http://ees.elsevier.com/ejor). Please select "Feat.Cluster Exact MOO"
as the "Article Type" during the submission process. Submitted papers
will undergo a regular review process according to the high standard of
EJOR.

*Important Dates*

Paper Submission Open: April 1, 2015
Paper Submission Due: July 1, 2015
Notification of Review Results: October 31, 2015
Revised Manuscript Due: January 15, 2016
Final Decision: March 15, 2016

-------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS (DEADLINE EXTENDED) -----------------

4th IEEE International Workshop on Smart Communication Protocols and Algorithms (SCPA 2015)
June 8-12, 2015. London, UK
In conjunction with IEEE ICC 2015
http://scpa.it.ubi.pt/2015/

Selected papers will be invited to the Special Issue on Smart Protocols and Algorithms of the International Journal Network Protocols and Algorithms (ISSN 1943-3581) or to the Special Issue on Recent Patents on Telecommunications Journal ((Online)ISSN 2211-7415, (Print) ISSN 2211-7407)

Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could be used by network devices to communicate across the network. Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance the communication procedure.

Smart communication protocols and algorithms make use of several methods and techniques (such as machine learning techniques, decision making techniques, knowledge representation, network management, network optimization, problem solution techniques, and so on), to communicate the network devices to transfer data between them. They can be used to perceive the network conditions, or the user behavior, in order to dynamically plan, adapt, decide, take the appropriate actions, and learn from the consequences of its actions. The algorithms can make use of the information gathered from the protocol in order to sense the environment, plan actions according to the input, take consciousness of what is happening in the environment, and take the appropriate decisions using a reasoning engine. Goals such as decide which scenario fits best its end-to-end purpose, or environment prediction, can be achieved with smart protocols and algorithms. Moreover, they could learn from the past and !
use this knowledge to improve futur
e decisions.

In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart communication protocols or algorithms at any communication layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are included in the workshop.

We welcome technical papers presenting analytical research, simulations, practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, and papers addressing the key problems and solutions. FISP-2015 is to provide a premier international platform for scholars,
researchers, and practitioners in academia and industry to discuss the
most recent challenges and developments in "Information Security,
Privacy and Forensics for Complex systems" from the perspective of
providing security awareness and its best practices for the real
world. This workshop is open to submit novel and high quality research
contributions in the field of information security and privacy. We
anticipate that this workshop will open new entrance for further
research and technology improvements in this important area.

### LP-EMS15 - Design of Low Power Embedded Multimedia Systems

Digital Media Technologies (DMTs) constitute one of the widest and most
important research areas in the ICT domain. Digital technologies allowed
the design of complex systems for creation, fruition and sharing of
audio/video/image contents pervading consumer electronics. A key
challenge in this domain regards the possibility of implementing
real-time high-performance multimedia systems minimizing,
contemporarily, their power consumption. Complexity on algorithmic side
and heterogeneity on processing platform side, are normally colliding
system constraints. It is necessary to close the gap between efficient
processing and optimal hardware support by adopting smart
hardware-software co-design solutions and flexible design frameworks.
In this perspective, dataflow-streaming based system models are
naturally capable of capturing domain-specific knowledge into formal
abstract system specifications capable of exposing the intrinsic
potential parallelism of the algorithms. Such representations result
very appropriate to model and explore the design space of DMTs
applications.

Paper Submission Deadline: Monday February 2, 2015, 11:59.59 PM (PST)

### Analytics Platforms for the Cloud

Cloud computing has become popular because of cost, agility, scale, and
flexibility. At the same time, the use of flexible analytic platforms
such as Hadoop, Spark, etc. have grown in popularity and are being used
to drive the computational side of many types of workloads. Many are
now starting to bring these two together to drive efficient deployment
of analytic capabilities which can specifically leverage the flexibility
and agility of Cloud delivery. The purpose of this workshop is to
provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in analytics and cloud
computing an end-to-end view on the challenges and opportunities of
cloud-based analytics, and enable idea sharing.

Paper Submission Deadline: February 8th, 2015

### Making Sense of Sensed Data - Issues in Developing Heterogeneous
Cognitive Systems

A new frontier in computing is evolving around developing systems that
'sense' and respond to data in ways that represent or mimic human
'cognition'. These advancements represent the intersection of
developments in processor hardware, software, and sensing devices.
Examples include the implementation of low power architectures that
mimic the type of synaptic information transmission that occur in
animal brains (Neuromorphic systems), improvements in probability
based software for big data analysis systems such as Natural Language
Processing, the development of "deep learning systems" which have
demonstrated systems that 'learn' representations? of data, and the
explosive growth of user based content in data systems such as cell
phone video etc.. The evolution of these systems is leading to new
possibilities for computing systems to interpret a vast amount of big
data collected by sensors into a meaningful representations and to
learn from that data or draw inferences from it.

Paper Submission Deadline: Friday, Feb 13, 2015

Submissions

Video and multimedia contributions are sought for the 24th Multimedia
Exposition in Computational Geometry, a part of CG Week 2015. This
event showcases the use of visualization in computational geometry
for exposition and education, for visual exploration of geometry in
research, and as an interface and a debugging tool in software
development. Algorithm animations, visual explanations of structural
theorems, descriptions of applications of computational geometry,
demonstrations of software systems, and games that illustrate
concepts from computational geometry are all appropriate. There are
no limitations on creativity, anything that leverages the
possibilities of multimedia to enlighten and entertain the viewer
while learning about computational geometry will do. This includes
rendered animation, films with narrators and/or actors, and
interactive stories.

We seek submissions of high quality, judged by how well they exploit
the creative possibilities of their respective formats. That is, a
screencast of static slides with some voice-over will hardly do.

QUALITY ISSUES

For videos, a length of three to five minutes is usually ideal; ten
minutes is the upper limit. For the final version, we require video
in 720P or better, using H.264. The embedded audio stream should be
AAC of at least 128kBit/s. Telephone-sounding audio (limited
frequency range, noise) or live rooms, as often recorded with cheap
headsets, must be avoided, as well as speakers with too heavy accent.

There are no general guidelines for other content. Interactive
applications (e.g., HTML5, Flash, AIR, Java, etc.) should have a
"demo" mode where the algorithm runs on its own. They should be
submitted as a distributable package.

To conserve resources, please try to keep your submission at a
reasonable size. The program committee may recode the submission at a
lower quality to reduce the space requirements. Authors are free to
post higher quality versions on their own web sites, and we will
include links in the electronic proceedings to their version, in
addition to the official version archived on
www.computational-geometry.org

It is strongly encouraged to contact the PC well in advance
to 1) discuss the quality of a video submission (based on sample
files) or 2) to present your non-video idea and how it could be
reviewed, presented, and distributed.

SUBMISSION

Submissions should be deposited online where they are accessible
through the web or via FTP. A video submission should play
trouble-free on programs like VLC Media Player. For ease of sharing
and viewing, we encourage (but do not require) that each video
submission be uploaded to YouTube (not necessarly publicly visible),
and that the corresponding URL be included with the submission.

Each submission should include a three-page description of the
material shown in the presentation, and where applicable, the
techniques used in the implementation. This three-page description
must be formatted according to the guidelines for the conference
proceedings, using the LIPIcs format. LIPIcs typesetting instructions
can be found at http://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publications/lipics and
the lipics.cls LaTeX style file at
http://drops.dagstuhl.de/styles/lipics/lipics-authors.tgz.

Send a mail to the committee chair, Wolfgang Mulzer
(mulzer@inf.fu-berlin.de) by February 13, 2015, 23:59 (UTC-12), with
the following information:
- the names and institutions of the authors
- the email address of the corresponding author
- instructions for downloading the submission
- if available: the link to the YouTube video
- and the PDF abstract.

We explicitly encourage video/multimedia submissions that support
papers submitted to the Symposium on Computational Geometry.
However, submitted papers and associated video/multimedia
submissions will be treated entirely separately by the respective
committees: acceptance or rejection of one will not influence
acceptance or rejection of the other. Authors will be notified of
acceptance or rejection, and given reviewers' comments, by March 09,
2015. For each accepted submission, the final version of the 3-page
textual description will be due by March 23, 2015 for inclusion in
the proceedings. Final versions of accepted video/multimedia
presentations will be due April 30, 2015.

Important dates
Submission deadline: April 1st, 2015
Notification of acceptance: April 20th, 2015
Camera Ready: May 11th, 2015
Program: June 1st, 2015
Accepted papers will be published on IEEE Xplore

Scope
The main goals of a smart-city are to improve sustainability and
livability, to ease city government and organization, and to increase
services to the citizens. The primary role of ICT in enabling this
vision is to keep the decision makers, the stake holders and the citizen
constantly updated with fresh information collected around the city.

To accomplish this task, next generation cities, will be populated with
billion of heterogeneous devices ranging from tiny communicating objects
(e.g., actuators, sensors, tags) able to interact with the surrounding
environment and remote systems, to high-end nodes (e.g., data centers,
workstations) capable of complex operations and to process an huge
amount of information. In this futuristic scenario a very special role
is played by citizens with their smartphones, tablets and portable
devices. They are constantly connected with whatever surroundings them
and they are formidable information consumers. At the same time,
citizens roaming around the city may be considered as mobile probes
which, by making uses of cyber and physical data accessible by
smartphones, can analyze the situation and produce reports to the
community. Furthermore smartphones can actively contributing in creating
the communication infrastructure by forwarding data coming from
surrounding devices.

All in all, cities are going to become a new complex ecosystem which has
the potentiality to offer many amazing features and support innovative
application. Unfortunately, fully exploiting, managing and accessing
that ecosystem are still far to be fully viable and their fulfillment
surely poses a formidable challenge.

The SWANSITY workshop aims to solicit contributions on novel algorithms,
methodological studies and experimentations on how to enable the
formerly described ecosystem. Specifically, on how devise a city-wide
networking infrastructure capable to efficiently guarantee communication
in the new envisaged ecosystem, to manage the complexity of
heterogeneous devices and access technologies, and to guarantee robust,
ubiquitous, and secure connectivity over the urban environments.
In line with such objectives, original contributions are solicited in
topics of interest including, but not limited to, the following:

- Models of network components? interactions on a smart-city
- Enabling wireless and mobile technologies for smart cities
- Novel communication protocols for M2M Communications;
- Device-2-Device Communications (D2D);
- IoT architectures and middleware for smart cities;
- Self-organizing wireless networks for pervasive urban access;
