MISTA 2015: Call for Participation
Multidisciplinary International Scheduling Conference: Theory & Applications

25-28 August 2015,
Prague, Czech Republic
http://www.schedulingconference.org/
------------------------------------------

MISTA 2015 is the seventh in the conference series. Previous conferences
were run in Ghent (2013), Arizona (2011), Dublin (2009), Paris (2007), New
York (2005) and Nottingham (2003). This year the conference takes place in
Prague.

The conference serves as a forum for an international community of
researchers, practitioners and vendors on all aspects of multi-disciplinary
scheduling. The conference covers, besides other, the following disciplines:
artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, management,
manufacturing, mathematics and operational research. The aim is to bring
together scheduling researchers and practitioners from all the disciplines
that engage with scheduling research.

------------------------------------------

This year we received a record breaking number of submissions and we are
very grateful for that. The conference programme is not available yet,
nevertheless we can announce the plenary speakers
(http://www.schedulingconference.org/plenary/index.php):

- Martin Skutella, Technische Universit?t Berlin (LP-based algorithms for
scheduling unrelated parallel machines)

- Hana Rudova, Masaryk University (University course timetabling: From
theory to practice)

- Johann Hurink, University of Twente (Scheduling for Decentralized Energy
Management)

------------------------------------------

A part of the conference is a reception and a banquet
(http://www.schedulingconference.org/social/activities.php). The reception
will take place on boat ?umava. The cruise on river Vltava includes
commented sightseeing and live music. The conference banquet will be in the
Municipal House which is one of the most remarkable constructions of Prague
Art Nouveau.

Just as during previous years, the last day of the conference is the social
day. This year we will visit glassworks R?CKL CRYSTAL a.s. where you can see
all stages of how the Czech handmade glass is produced. In the afternoon, we
will move to Karl?tejn, a High Gothic castle founded in 1348, which has a
unique position among Czech castles. It was built by Czech King and Roman
Emperor Charles IV as a place for safekeeping of the royal treasures.

*1 Research Grant ? Post-doc (BI-D)*

We are seeking one postdoc candidate in the context of a FP7 KBBE European
Project, *BacHBerry - ?BACterial Hosts for production of Bioactive
phenolics from bERRY fruits*, www.bachberry.eu (European Union FP7- 613793).

*Scientific Area*: Optimization and Operations Research

*Required education Level and research experience*: PhD in one of the
following areas: optimization, operations research, machine learning,
computer science, mathematics, statistics or related, with a taste for
inter-disciplinary research, and with very good interpersonal skills.
Ideally, the person will have a long experience with optimization
techniques, machine learning and graphical models.

*Workplan*: With the development of genetic and metabolic engineering is it
now possible to increase the cells' production of given substances by
manipulating the corresponding metabolic networks, which can be defined as
hypergraphs (nodes are compounds, edges are chemical reactions). BachBerry
is interested in the generation of bacterial platforms for sustainable
bio-based production of phenolic compounds found in berry fruits. This is
accomplished by maximizing the fluxes in the network, a problem similar to
those occurring in transportation and logistics optimization. The candidate
will work on the development and application of optimization methods and
algorithms, in particular expanding techniques based on linear programming
(FBA), bi-level mixed-integer (OptKnock) and multi-level optimization
(OptCom). Also sparse optimization might provide relevant solutions and
will be explored during the project.

*Workplace and scientific supervision*: The candidate will work in the
Center of Intelligent Systems at the IDMEC (http://www.idmec.ist.utl.pt/),
Instituto Superior T?cnico, Lisboa, Portugal, under the supervision of
Susana Vinga and in interaction with the partners of BacHBerry, in
particular the ERABLE team at the Inria-UCBL in Lyon, France (
https://team.inria.fr/erable/) and Marie-France Sagot. Both CSI and ERABLE
are methodological teams with an expertise in computational and systems
biology.

*Duration:* 12 months, from September 2015, and renewable for up to the
duration of the project.

*Application Dates*: From 3rd June to* 27th July 2015*

*Documents to be submitted*: Detailed curriculum vitae; motivation letter;
copy of academic study certificates; name of two personal references. The
applications should be submitted via email to bachberry.wp8@gmail.com

*For more details*: http://web.ist.utl.pt/susanavinga/

As part of the 21st International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming (CP 2015), we are inviting PhD and MSc students to apply for the Doctoral Programme (DP). The DP is an opportunity for students to meet each other as well as researchers and practitioners in the field. The spirit of the DP is that every interested student whose work is within the scope of the conference should be admitted.

Participation in the DP will involve:

- Training to the reviewing process.
- Presentation of the student work via both talk and poster.
- Discussions with a mentor with similar research interests.

***** FINANCIAL SUPPORT *****

There are funds available to support some of the students participating in the DP. The financial support usually only covers conference registration, and will be assigned with regard to mainly the financial need of a student, as indicated in a request by an advisor, and then by the quality of the submitted paper, as measured by the review process of the DP. A request for financial support should be sent by Monday 15 June 2015 to dpcp2015@gmail.com by an advisor, detailing:

- the advisor's support of the student's application; this should include a confirmation that the DP submission or a paper accepted at CP 2015 is primarily the student's work;
- which years the student has previously been to the DP and/or received financial support;
- the funding available for the student's travel, accommodation, and registration, and the reason for requesting financial support.

It is the responsibility of the student to make sure that the advisor's request is submitted by the deadline.

********** IMPORTANT DATES **********

Paper submission deadline: Monday 15 June 2015 Financial support request deadline: Monday 15 June 2015
Notification: Monday 6 July 2015
Camera-ready version deadline: Monday 3 August 2015 Doctoral Programme: Monday 31 August 2015

********** ELIGIBILITY **********

The DP is open to all PhD and outstanding MSc students involved in Constraint Programming or related fields at any level. The submitted paper should contain work that is primarily the work of the student. It can either be completed or work in progress. It can also be a summary of a formally published recent paper on the student's work.

********** SUBMISSION DETAILS **********

Applicants are required to submit a short paper (from 4 to 8 pages, excluding references) in the Springer LNCS style, and the author list should specify who is the student and who are the advisors and other co-authors. Submissions are required to be in PDF format.

All proposals should be submitted online through EasyChair - by selecting 'New Submission' at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cpdp15

Students with full or short papers accepted at the CP 2015 conference, including technical track, application track, and published-journal-paper track papers, who wish to participate in the DP do not need to submit a separate paper for the DP. Instead, such students should email the DP chairs at dpcp2015@gmail.com expressing their interest. This email should also include the paper title, abstract, author list (formatted as specified above), and the identifier that the accepted paper was given by EasyChair.

********** TRAINING TO THE REVIEW PROCESS **********

This year, the students submitting papers to the DP will participate in a training to the reviewing process. Each of the students will be assigned a submitted paper to review. The process will follow the same rules as conferences, but the reviews submitted by the students will be independent from the DP reviews received from other reviewers and will have no impact on the final acceptance or financial support decision.

The 3rd Workshop on Biological Distributed Algorithms (BDA 2015)
August 18-19, 2015 in Boston, MA USA
http://www.snl.salk.edu/~navlakha/BDA2015/
=======================================================

We are excited to announce the third workshop on Biological
Distributed Algorithms (BDA). BDA is focused on the relationships
between distributed computing and distributed biological systems and
in particular, on analysis and case studies that combine the two. Such
research can lead to better understanding of the behavior of the
biological systems while at the same time developing novel
computational algorithms that can be used to solve distributed
computing problems.

BDA 2015 will include presentations on distributed algorithms related
to a variety of biological systems, with special attention to
communication and coordination in insect colonies (e.g. foraging,
navigation, task allocation, construction) and networks in the brain
(e.g. learning, decision-making, attention).

===========
SUBMISSIONS
===========
We solicit submissions of extended abstracts describing recent results
relevant to biological distributed computing. We especially welcome
extended abstracts describing new insights and / or case studies
regarding the relationship between distributed computing and
biological systems even if these are not fully formed. Since a major
goal of the workshop is to explore new directions and approaches, we
especially encourage the submission of ongoing work. Selected
contributors would be asked to present, discuss and defend their work
at the workshop. Submissions should be in PDF and include title,
author information, and a 4-page extended abstract.

Please use the following EasyChair submission link:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bda20150

Note: The workshop will not include published proceedings. In
particular, we welcome submissions of papers describing work that has
appeared or is expected to appear in other venues.
