Objectives of the Workshop
=====================
Agent-Based Simulation Models are an increasingly popular tool for research
and
management in many fields such as ecology, economics, sociology, etc..
In some fields, such as social sciences, these models are seen as a
key instrument to the generative approach, essential for understanding
complex social
phenomena.
But also in policy-making, biology, military simulations, control of
mobile robots and economics, the relevance and effectiveness of Agent-Based
Simulation Models is recently recognized.
Computer science community has responded to the need for platforms
that can help the development and testing of new models in each specific
field by
providing tools, libraries and frameworks that speed up and make massive
simulations possible. The key objective of this Third Workshop on
Parallel and Distributed
Agent-Based Simulations is to bring together the researchers that are
interested
in getting more performances from their simulations, by using synchronized,
many-core
simulations (e.g., GPUs), strongly coupled, parallel simulations (e.g. MPI)
and
loosely coupled, distributed simulations (distributed heterogeneous
setting).
Several frameworks have been recently developed and are active in this
field.
They range from the GPU-Manycore approach, to Parallel, to Distributed
simulation environments. In the first category, you can find FLAME GPU, that
allows also non GPU specialists to harness the GPUs performance for real
time simulation and visualization. For tightly-coupled, large computing
clusters and supercomputers
a very popular framework is Repast for High Performance Computing
(REPAST-HPC),
a C++ based modeling system. On the distributed side, recent work on
Distributed Mason, allows non specialists to use heterogeneous hardware and
software in local area networks for enlarging the size and speeding up the
simulation of complex Agent-Based models.

Topics of interest
=============
- Frameworks for parallel/distributed ABSs.
- Case studies of ABSs in parallel/distributed settings, with an emphasis
on the technical implementation, architectural choices and their impact on
performances.
- Benchmark parallel/distributed ABSs.
- Open benchmark models contributing towards OpenAB initiative (
www.openab.org).
- Debugging parallel/distributed ABSs.
- Formal methods and algorithms for ABSs in parallel/distributed models.
- Load Balancing algorithms, techniques and frameworks.
- Management and deployment of parallel/distributed ABSs.
- Visualization of parallel/distributed ABSs.

Paper submission
==============
The papers will be presented in the regular format (10 pages LNCS format)
and will be reviewed, anonymously by at least 3 reviewers of the Program
Committee.
Acceptance will depend upon scientific value, originality and relevance to
the Workshop theme. Euro-Par Workshops Proceedings will be published by
Springer in the Lecture
Notes for Computer Science series after the Workshops. Submissions and

CALL FOR PAPERS

[Scope]

Global warming and climate change have been a growing worldwide concern. Six sources, i.e., transportation, power, buildings, industry, agriculture and forestry, and land use, have been identified as major contributors to the rise of global carbon dioxide (CO2). The mobile industry is seen as a potential enabler to reduce greenhouse gases contributed by these six sources provided that appropriate measures are implemented. On the other hand, the mobile industry itself will also contribute to CO2 emission through network operations, mobile equipments, etc. To meet the requirement of low-carbon economy development, it is necessary to reduce the operation expenditure or energy consumption of mobile networks, while maintaining acceptable quality of service. This conference will explore and explain the scope and challenges of designing, building, and deploying GreeNets. In this regard, the conference aims to establish a forum to bring together research professionals from diverse f!

training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
===================

An appointment as assistent in opleiding (see overview).
Salary max € 2779 (level AIO, CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten, for a
fulltime job); the candidate is offered a full-time position for four
years, starting in September 2016 (starting time can be flexible).

interpretation, model checking, constraint solving, parallel algorithms.
Experience in programming highly parallel machines would be of an
advantage, but is not mandatory. The positions are connected to projects
funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research for up to 3 years.
The positions will involve the cooperation with other groups both in
academic and industrial (mainly automotive) environments.

We expect the candidates to be fluent in English both in speaking and
writing. Good knowledge of German is preferable but not mandatory.

The Kiel University is an equal opportunity employer. The positions will be
associated to the Dependable Systems group in the Institute of Computer
Science; see zs.uni-kiel.de. We are an international, young, and expanding
group with research interests ranging from theoretical Computer Science to
the application of formal methods in industrial settings.

Applications in electronic form with the usual documents (certificates, CV,
publication list if applicable, etc.) are to be sent as PDF files to Prof.
Dr. Dirk Nowotka (dn@zs.uni-kiel.de).

Introduction
Electrical energy storage is a key factor for the future. The
consumption of electrical energy (i.e. the use of air conditioning,
audio and video devices or electric heating) is increasing every year
due; firstly to the increase of the population and secondly by the
appearance of new uses of consumption, such as electric cars. With this
increase consumption, how to ensure the balance between supply and
demand for electricity at all times? To address this problem, the idea
of placing the new generation of smart grids to control this energy has
appeared in recent literature in different flavors in order to provide
electric power supply secure, sustainable and competitive to consumers.
In addition, the revolution in smart grid involves a significant change
in side of the consumer where consumers will also become producer with
the ability of energy storage such as in the vehicle battery, or as a
local generation sources such as photovoltaic panels. However, the smart
grid develops modern solutions for the next-generation network and
digital communication in which many systems and subsystems are
interconnected to provide services from end-to-end network between
various actors and between intelligent devices that are deployed there.
Within each network, a hierarchical structure is composed of different
types of networks, such as the HANs (Home Area Networks), the BANs
(Building Area Networks), the IANs (Industrial Area Networks), the NANs
(Neighborhood Area Networks), the FANs (Field Area Networks), and the
WANs (Wide Area Networks). Currently, large societies propose the use of
cloud computing in smart grid applications connected with the electrical
control center. The main problem in the development of a smart grid is
not located at the physical medium but mainly in delivery of reliability
and security. The possibility of fitting with active or passive attacks
in smart grid network is great to divulge privacy and disrupt energy
(e.g. Wormhole Attack, False Data Injection Attack, Black Hole Attack,
Grey Hole Attack, DoS Attack, Physical Layer Attack, Colluding Adversary
Attack, Routing Table Overflow Attack etc.). Therefore, the security
requirements, including authentication, accountability, integrity,
non-repudiation, access control and confidentiality should be paid more
attention in the future for high performance smart grids. This book will
cover the current scope of various methodologies and mechanisms in the
theory and practice of security, privacy, intrusion detection, and
applied cryptography in smart grid communications in one place.

Objective
This comprehensive and timely publication aims to be an essential

http://ssbse.org/2016/
********************************************************************************

---------------------
SSBSE 2016
---------------------
We are pleased to announce SSBSE 2016, the eight edition of the annual symposium dedicated to Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE),
to be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
Search-based Software Engineering (SBSE) is the application of meta-heuristic optimisation techniques to various software engineering problems,
ranging from requirements engineering to software testing and maintenance.
The symposium builds on the flourishing interest in SBSE and provides a welcoming forum for discussion and dissemination that will strengthen
the rapidly-growing international SBSE community.
We invite contributions of different forms in this call for papers as follows:

--------------------------------------------
RESEARCH PAPER TRACK
--------------------------------------------
We invite the submission of high quality papers describing novel and original work in all areas of Search-Based Software Engineering
including, but not limited to, applications of SBSE to novel problems, theoretical analyses of search algorithms for software engineering,
rigorous empirical evaluations of SBSE techniques, and reports of industrial experiences.
SSBSE welcomes not only applications from throughout the software engineering lifecycle but also a broad range of search methods
ranging from exact Operational Research techniques to nature-inspired algorithms and simulated annealing.
We particularly encourage papers that report on software engineering applications to which SBSE has not been applied before.
Research papers must have up to 15 pages in length, including all text, figures, references and appendices.
The SSBSE Research Paper Track performs double-blind review of all submissions
(i.e., authors will not be identified to reviewers and reviewers will not be identified to authors).
Please consult the submission information page to prepare your manuscript for double-blind process.

--------------------------------------------
SHORT PAPER TRACK
--------------------------------------------
We invite short papers presenting new ideas, tools, experience reports, or novel techniques and ideas, which will be included in the proceedings
and presented at the symposium. Papers submitted to this track should not exceed 6 pages in length using the regular symposium format.

--------------------------------------------
GRADUATE STUDENT TRACK
--------------------------------------------
We invite students to submit papers to a special Graduate Student track.
This track gives students the opportunity to showcase their SBSE research and receive feedback from senior members of the SBSE community.
Papers submitted to this track should not exceed 6 pages in length using the regular symposium format.
To be eligible, papers should be primarily the work of students currently registered on a doctoral or master program that have not yet completed their studies.
The paper may have co-authors who are not students but the student author is expected to present the paper at the symposium.

--------------------------------------------
SBSE CHALLENGE TRACK
--------------------------------------------
We challenge everyone interested in SBSE to apply tools, techniques, and algorithms to our selected problems. We want you to apply your SBSE expertise
to do interesting things to or with the software and uncover interesting things related to it. The best competition entries will be awarded special prizes.
Challenge papers should not exceed 6 pages in length using the regular symposium format.
More details about the challenge are available on the website (http://ssbse.org/2016/).

-------------------------------------------
FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
-------------------------------------------
Papers must not have been previously published, or be in consideration for, any journal, book, or other conference.
Papers will be evaluated by members of the program committee based on their originality, technical soundness and presentation quality.
Submissions must conform to Springer's LNCS format (http://www.springer.com/lncs).
In addition to those instructions, please consider that SSBSE is performing double-blind review of all submissions, but those for the SBSE Challenge Track.
Further information on paper formatting and submission are available on the symposium website.
If a paper is accepted, at least one author is expected to attend the symposium and to present the paper.
In case of a student paper, the first (student) author is expected to attend and present the paper.

---------------------------------------------
CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
---------------------------------------------
Accepted papers will be published in a volume of the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series (LNCS).

-----------------------------------------------------------------
BEST PAPER AWARDS AND TRAVEL GRANTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Research and Student papers accepted for presentation at SSBSE 2016 will be considered for prizes.
More details about prizes and travel grants will be announced on the website (http://ssbse.org/2016/).

---------------------------------------------------
SPECIAL ISSUE FOR BEST PAPERS
---------------------------------------------------
The authors of best selected symposium papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for a special section
in the International Journal of Information and Software Technology (IST).
