Postdoctoral Position

Los Alamos National Laboratory

The Information Sciences group and the Center for Nonlinear Studies at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have an opening at a postdoctoral level. The research will involve elements of machine learning and graph theory. It will be a part of a multi-disciplinary project in high-performance simulation that is based on a dynamic graph modeling of physical processes.


Candidates are expected to have strong analytical and programming skills. The successful applicant should have a strong publication record and will be expected to publish results in high impact peer-reviewed journals and conferences. This is a long-term appointment (up to three years), so candidates who can commit to a longer time frame will be preferred. However, candidates available for shorter periods may be considered for internships.


Qualifications:


(1) A PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics;

(2) Research-level expertise in at least one of the following: machine learning, graph theory;

(3) Strong programming skills;

(4) Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings in the areas of machine learning and/or graph theory;

(5) Excellent oral presentation and writing skills

(6) Willingness to work in interdisciplinary project teams and learn about other fields


US citizenship is NOT required for this position.

International Conference and Workshops on Algorithms and Computation (WALCOM)
is intended to provide an international forum for researchers working in the areas of
algorithms and computation. WALCOM 2017 will be held during March 29- 31, 2017
at Hsinchu, Taiwan.

SCOPE

The range of topics within the scope of the workshop on algorithms and
computation includes (but is not limited to): Approximation Algorithms,
Algorithmic Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Combinatorial
Algorithms, Combinatorial Optimization, Computational Biology,
Computational Complexity, Computational Geometry, Discrete Geometry,
Data Structures, Experimental Algorithm Methodologies, Graph Algorithms,
Graph Drawing, Parallel and Distributed Algorithms,
Parameterized Complexity, Network Optimization, Online
Algorithms, Randomized Algorithms, String Algorithms.

AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS

Authors are invited to submit papers (extended abstracts) describing
original research of theoretical or practical significance to
algorithms and computation. Papers should not exceed 12 pages in LNCS
style. Papers significantly shorter than 12 pages are also welcome.
If the authors feel that more details are essential to substantiate the main
claim of the paper, they may include a clearly marked appendix that
will be read at the discretion of the Program Committee. Only electronic
submission will be allowed. Submitted papers must describe work not
previously published. They must not be submitted simultaneously to
another conference with refereed proceedings or to a journal.

PROCEEDINGS

Accepted papers in the conference will be published in the conference proceedings

"Theoretical Computer Science (TCS) " and "Journal of Graph Algorithms and
Applications (JGAA) ".

VENUE AND TIME

The conference will be held at the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU),
Hsinchu, Taiwan, during March 29- 31, 2017.
