CALL FOR PAPERS
Elsevier - Computer Communications Journal
Special Issue on
Online Social Networks
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications/call-for-papers/special-issue-on-online-social-networks1/
Submission Deadline: 19 October 2014
Online Social Networks are a massively successful phenomenon, used by
billions of users to interact. Nowadays they are key platforms for,
among others, content dissemination, social and professional networking,
recommendation, scouting, alerting, and political campaigns. The
research interest in OSNs is multi-faceted, and exploits an unmatched
source of large-scale data about the human behavior. It spans a number
of disciplines, across numerous fields in and beyond computer science,
all the way up to the analysis of human social relationships and how
they evolve and mature over time. Moreover, the pervasive presence of
users' mobile devices (e.g., smartphones) has opened new avenues in the
design of mobile social networking services, and in the study of the
interplay between mobility and social interactions. Research in OSN is a
fertile ground also for industry, to develop innovative ideas fostering
the design of the new generation of communication platforms and their
services.
This special issue seeks contributions pushing the state of the art in
all facets of Online Social Networks highlighted above. We also
encourage original work based on an interdisciplinary research (at the
boundary between computer science and humanistic disciplines such as
sociology and anthropology) where quantitative evidence is available
demonstrating the mutual advantage of such an approach. Therefore,
purely methodological papers or papers that do not present quantitative
results with real Online or Mobile Social Networking technologies are
considered out of scope. Moreover, special attention is expected in
interpreting the proposed research results in order to shed light
towards what users may need and wish in terms of novel, practical
services and application.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Design of OSN platforms based on human behavioural models
- Analysis of OSN users' behaviour and its evolution over time
- Comparison of human social behaviour in Online and "offline" Social
Networks, and across OSNs
- Impact of Online Social Networks on human social behaviour
- Analysis of the use of social-networking sites in the urban context
- OSNs for supporting novel, social-oriented applications and services
- Mobile and Location-aware Online Social Networks
- OSN services enabled by the analysis of mobility and social behaviour
- Crowdsourcing for Online and Mobile Social Networks
- Dynamics of trends, information and opinion diffusion in OSN
- Smart recommendations and advertising in Online Social Networks
- Information extraction and search in Online Social Networks
- Privacy in management and analysis of Online and Mobile Social
Networks data
- Privacy, Security, Trust and Reputation in Online Social Networks
- Prevention of misbehaviours (spamming, phishing, ...) in Online Social
Networks
- Modelling of Online Social Networks characteristics and mechanisms
- Graph analysis applied to Online Social Networks
- Complex networks techniques applied to the investigation of OSN
- Data Mining and Machine Learning to gain novel insights on Online
Social Networks
- Novel distributed solutions for designing, supporting and operating
Online Social Networks
- Networking, computation and data infrastructure support for Online
Social Network systems

ISMP 2018 - INVITATION FOR PRELIMINARY BIDS
The Symposium Advisory Committee of the Mathematical Optimization Society
issues a call for pre-proposals to organize and host ISMP 2018, the
triennial International Symposium on Mathematical Programming.
ISMP is the flagship event of our society, regularly gathering over a
thousand scientists from around the world. The conference is usually held
in or around the month of August. Hosting ISMP provides a vital service to
the mathematical optimization community and often has a lasting effect on
the visibility of the hosting institution. It also presents a significant
challenge. This call for pre-proposals is addressed at local groups willing
to take up that challenge. The tradition would be that only sites outside
of USA and Canada are eligible to host ISMP 2018.
Preliminary bids will be examined by the Symposium Advisory Committee
(SAC), which will then issue invitations for detailed bids. The final
decision will be made and announced during ISMP 2015 in Pittsburgh. Members
of the SAC are
Michael Juenger, Germany <mjuenger@informatik.uni-koeln.de>
Jan Karel Lenstra, The Netherlands (chair) <jkl@cwi.nl>
Jeff Linderoth, USA <linderot@cae.wisc.edu>
Andy Philpott, New Zealand <a.philpott@auckland.ac.nz>
Kim-Chuan Toh, Singapore <mattohkc@nus.edu.sg>
Luis Nunes Vicente, Portugal <lnv@mat.uc.pt>
Preliminary bids should be brief and contain information pertaining to the
(1) location,
(2) facilities,
(3) logistics: accommodation and transportation, and
(4) likely local organizers.
Further information can be obtained from any member of the advisory
committee. Please address your preliminary bids until October 15, 2014 to
Jan Karel Lenstra <jkl@cwi.nl>.

OPODIS 2014 Call for Papers
18th Int. Conf. on the Principles of Distributed Systems (OPODIS)
17?19 December 2014
Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy
http://opodis2014.dis.uniroma1.it/
OPODIS is an open forum for the exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge on distributed computing and distributed computer systems. All aspects of distributed systems are within the scope of OPODIS, including theory, specification, design, performance, and system building.
OPODIS is traditionally strong in the theoretical aspects of distributed systems; furthermore, OPODIS is expanding its coverage to include the overlap between theoretical solutions and practical implementations, as well as experimentation and quantitative assessments.
A quality OPODIS paper will typically consider a significant problem in distributed computing, study an original solution, and evaluate it by formal, analytical, simulation, or experimental means. Positive, negative, and reproduction results that advance the state of the art are equally welcome.
Topics covered by OPODIS include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cloud computing
Communication and synchronization protocols
Dependable computing: theory and practice
Distributed algorithms: shared memory and message passing
Distributed database systems
Distributed event processing
Distributed operating systems
Dynamic and time-varying networks
Embedded distributed systems
Fault-tolerance, reliability, availability
Grid and cluster computing
Large-scale systems
Mobile agents and autonomous robots
Peer-to-peer systems, overlay networks
Performance: availability, latency, throughput, balance, communication, energy, etc.
Programming languages, specification and verification applied to distributed systems
Security and privacy
Self-* solutions for distributed systems
Sensor networks
Social networks: modeling, analysis, and synthesis
Wireless and mobile computing

http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications/call-for-papers/special-issue-on-security-and-privacy-in-unified-communicati/
========================================================================
Unified Communications (UC) merge different communication
technologies, types of products, and services, from various
manufacturers, operators, and countries, following diverse policies
and standards. Specifically, in the context of UC, a range of
communication tools are integrated in a way that both corporations and
individuals are able to manage all their communications in one entity
instead of doing it disjointly. It is therefore said that UC bridges
the opening between the various computer related communication
technologies and Voice over IP (VoIP). However, this high level of
heterogeneity expands the risks related to security and privacy that
stakeholders should deal with. To eliminate or even prevent the
increasing threats to end-users and operators, it is important to
explore this growing and timely research topic.
This feature topic will benefit the research community towards
identifying challenges and disseminating the latest methodologies and
solutions to UC security and privacy issues. Its objective is to
publish high-quality articles presenting open issues, algorithms,
protocols, policies, frameworks, standards, and solutions for UC
related to security and privacy. Only technical papers describing
previously unpublished, original, state-of-the-art research, and not
currently under review by a conference or a journal will be
considered. Reviews and case studies which address state-of-art
research and state-of-practice industry experiences are also welcomed.
We solicit papers in a variety of topics related to unified
communications security and privacy, including, but not limited to:
- Authorization and access control for UC services
- Denial of service prevention schemes for UC
- Reliability and availability issues on UC
- Penetration testing, intrusion detection and prevention
- End-to-end security solutions
- Cryptographic protocols for UC
- Voice security
- Signaling security and privacy
- Multimedia application security and privacy analysis
- Multimedia communication platforms vulnerabilities and attacks
- Security and privacy in mobile communication services
- Smartphone multimedia apps security and privacy
- Social networking security and privacy
- Testbed and case studies for secure and private UC services
- Trust establishment in UC
- IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) security
- Privacy and identity management
- Privacy enhancing technologies for UC
- Privacy models for UC
- Security and privacy assessment for UC
- Security policies
- Auditing, verification, and validation of UC services
- Risk analysis and management
- Cyber-security issues affecting UC
- Protection of UC as a Critical Information Infrastructure
- VoIP peering security issues
All received submissions will be sent out for peer review by at least
two experts in the field and evaluated with respect to relevance to
the special issue, level of innovation, depth of contributions, and
quality of presentation. Guest editors will make an initial
determination of the suitability and scope of all submissions. Papers
that either lack originality, clarity in presentation or fall outside
the scope of the special issue will not be sent for review and the
authors will be promptly informed in such cases. Submitted papers must
not be under consideration by any other journal or publication.

1 Motivation and Objectives of the Workshop
==============================================================================
Ambient (aka pervasive, ubiquitous) media environments offer a plethora of context data as
well as opportunities for context-related content production and consumption. They are the
perfect environments for providing users with highly contextualized data-driven services
and data-driven visual and additive content.
To build such ambient media environments, semantics play an essential role to deal with a
seamless integration of the urban context as well as the digital services to be provided.
The application areas range from smart cars, urban informatics, smart homes, ambient
assisted living, smart media environments, and new interaction devices.
We aim to bring together communities involved in different semantic applications needed
for the creation of ambient media environments, like: digital services, media
interoperability, open data, user interfaces, human-computer interaction, user-centred
and interaction design, user experience, business modelling, knowledge management, etc.
This will allow identifying common themes between the participant's current work and
research agenda, and, eventually, leading to the discovery of new insights and opportunities.
The primary research goal is to assess new trends for applying semantics in digital
services for urban contexts and the disciplines involved in the creation of these services.
The workshop organizers have extensive experiences in organizing high level workshops
through the non-profit International Ambient Media Association (AMEA) they founded.
The organizers have also established an own free open access series and journal within
the association, attracted large audiences, and disseminated the results through
high level journal special issues as e.g. Springer-Verlag?s Multimedia Tools &
Applications.
2 Topics of the Workshop
==============================================================================
In line with the above, contributions to the workshop should propose applications of
applications and services in the domain of ubiquitous media centering on usability,
interaction, and intelligent interaction focused on, but not limited to ubiquitous/ambient usability:
- Ambient Intelligent Semantics & Technologies
o Vocabularies, ontologies & linked data for urban environments
o Context-data aggregation and context awareness
o Semantics of usage contexts and sensor data
o Context adaptive services
o Service interoperability
o Implementation and evaluation of urban services
o Ambient and ubiquitous devices
- Ambient Intelligent Presentation and Interaction
o Service interoperability
o Usage of ambient media for increasing application usability
o Methods and best practices for urban service design
o Usability in ubiquitous smart systems
o Ubiquitous human-computer interaction
o User experience, needs and user studies
o New smart media based user interfaces
- Emerging Ambient Services & Applications
o Smart cars, smart cities, smart urban environments
o Big data, opened data, and linked data applications
o New smart media based interfaces
o User-driven content and semantic data generation
o Smart media environments
o Unobtrusive mobile applications
o Non-screen based user interfaces
o Trust and security
3 Target Audience
==============================================================================
The target audiences to be addressed by this workshop are communities involved
in the creation of ambient intelligence systems for urban environments,
digital services, media interoperability, open data, user interaction design,
business modelling, knowledge management, etc.
As the workshop organizers are from different institutions and research perspectives,
and from academic and from industry, a high number of attendees is expected.
We expect approx. 15-25 attendees to allow a reasonable number of
working groups (see Section 4 ?Workshop Format?).
4 Workshop Format and Activities
==============================================================================
The workshop is part of a larger set of initiatives and is supported and incorporated with:
* iAMEA ? International Association of Ambient Media Ry (www.ambientmediaassociation.org)
* the Association of Information Systems (AIS) Special Interest Group (SIG) SIG-eMedia
(aisnet.org/group/SIG-eMedia)
* iAMEA established an open access journal and series (indexed in Scopus, and within the
Finnish publication ranking system)
o International Journal on Information Systems and Management in Creative eMedia
o International Series on Information Systems and Management in Creative eMedia
The workshop will be a full-day workshop grouped into several sessions. We allow the
submission of papers up to 10 pages which will be peer-reviewed by members of the
program committee.
We expect a submission volume of 30 papers, with an approximate acceptance rate of 40%.
The workshop will start with a keynote talk followed by short presentations of the papers.
Afterwards in a ?Theme Matching? phase common topics will be identified as a starting point
for the sub-sequent group work. The workshop participants will be clustered into groups
around the identified topics. In an intense exchange phase within the groups, the topics will
be further developed. The workshop ends with final presentations by the groups.
The format of the workshop intends to open new perspectives to each participant's
individual research work, as well as to assess common problems and trends in the design
of urban media environments.
After the workshop, it is planned that the results of the group work are consolidated in a
journal paper to be published in the special issue of the Springer journal on
?Multimedia Tools and Applications?. Also the authors of the best accepted papers of
SAME workshop will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers to the
special issue. Respective arrangements with Springer are on the way for the
proposed workshop.

==============================================================================
1 Motivation and Objectives of the Workshop
==============================================================================
==============================================================================
In line with the above, contributions to the workshop should propose applications of
applications and services in the domain of ubiquitous media centering on usability,
interaction, and intelligent interaction focused on, but not limited to ubiquitous/ambient usability:
- Ambient Intelligent Semantics & Technologies
o Vocabularies, ontologies & linked data for urban environments
o Context-data aggregation and context awareness
o Semantics of usage contexts and sensor data
o Context adaptive services
o Service interoperability
o Implementation and evaluation of urban services
o Ambient and ubiquitous devices
- Ambient Intelligent Presentation and Interaction
o Service interoperability
o Usage of ambient media for increasing application usability
o Methods and best practices for urban service design
o Usability in ubiquitous smart systems
o Ubiquitous human-computer interaction
o User experience, needs and user studies
o New smart media based user interfaces
- Emerging Ambient Services & Applications
o Smart cars, smart cities, smart urban environments
o Big data, opened data, and linked data applications
o New smart media based interfaces
o User-driven content and semantic data generation
o Smart media environments
o Unobtrusive mobile applications
o Non-screen based user interfaces
o Trust and security
3 Target Audience
==============================================================================
==============================================================================
