Dear Colleague,
We have the pleasure to invite you to submit a contribution to the stream on:
?ENGINEERING OPTIMIZATION?,
that we are organizing within the 27th EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON OPERATION RESEARCH, at
the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, 12-15 July 2015.

OBJECTIVES:
The main goal of the Stream on "Engineering Optimization" is to bring together
engineers, applied mathematicians and computer scientists working on research,
development and practical application of optimization methods applied to all
engineering disciplines or developing basic techniques in this field.
ABOUT ENGINEERING DESIGN OPTIMIZATION:
Modern design techniques seek for the best design to perform the desired tasks.
Engineering Optimization deals with the optimal design of elements and systems in
all
engineering fields.
Nowadays, use of Design Optimization techniques is rapidly growing in most of
engineering disciplines, like automotive, aeronautical, mechanical, civil, nuclear,
naval, mechanical, electrical, energy and off-shore engineering. This is due to the
increase of technological competition and the development of strong and efficient
techniques for several practical applications.
MDO - Multidisciplinary Design Optimization:
Engineering Systems are increasingly complex and represented by large and
sophisticated
numerical models. They involve several interacting disciplines or are made up of
distinct interacting subsystems that must be considered simultaneously to obtain
efficient designs.
Multidisciplinary Design Optimization is devoted to the design of complex systems
involving interacting subsystems or disciplines. The main scientific challenges of
MDO
are concerned with the development of strong and efficient numerical techniques and
with the computational organization required for the necessary coupling of codes
employed in interacting disciplines.
INVERSE PROBLEMS:
Numerical methods for inverse problems in most of cases are based on optimization
techniques similar to those employed in optimal design. This field, applied in all
engineering disciplines, is of utmost importance for EUROPT conference.
ENGINEERING SIMULATION INVOLVING OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES:
Several physical phenomena are naturally represented by an optimization problem.
This
is the case when the "equilibrium" is attained at the minimum of an energy function.
In
several applications, constraints must be satisfied. This is the case of contact
problems is solids mechanics.
BASIC NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES:
Engineering Optimization requires a large set of basic computer tools. This is the
case
of several CAD tools for geometric modeling, engineering analysis methods,
sensitivity
analysis as well as mathematical optimization algorithms.
About Interdisciplinarity in Engineering Optimization:
Modern Engineering Optimization is strongly interdisciplinary in two axes. The need
of
integration of basic and applied techniques and to solve real engineering problems,
requires the cooperation of engineers, mathematicians and computer scientists,
working
on research and practical applications.

University currently has an active combinatorics group which includes
Prof. Nick Wormald, Prof. Ian Wanless, Prof. Graham Farr, A/Prof David
Wood, Dr Daniel Horsley and Dr Kerri Morgan.
The positions are funded via an Australian Laureate Fellowship project

Wormald. Experience in random graphs, probabilistic combinatorics,
asymptotic enumeration, or related areas of combinatorics or discrete
probability is required. To be considered you will require a PhD in
discrete mathematics or a related discipline, familiarity with random
graphs, discrete random processes, or asymptotic enumeration, proven
ability to perform collaborative research, and the potential to publish

17th International Symposium on Stabilization, Safety,
and Security of Distributed Systems (SSS 2015)
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
18-21 August 2015
sss15.cs.ualberta.ca
Proceedings to be published as a Springer LNCS Volume.
*******************************************************************************
The Symposium on Stabilization, Safety, and Security of Distributed Systems is
an international forum for researchers and practitioners working on the design
and development of distributed systems that guarantee specific desired
properties despite adversity, or that are able to restore the desired
properties following adversarial perturbations in the computing medium building
on the principles of self-stabilization.
Research in distributed computing and distributed systems continues its vibrant
development, marked by the importance of dynamic systems, such as peer-to-peer
networks, large-scale wireless sensor networks, mobile ad hoc networks, mobile
agent computing, opportunistic networks etc. Moreover, new applications such as
grid and web services, banking and e-commerce, e-voting, e-health and robotics,
aerospace and avionics, automotive, industrial process control, have joined the
expanded landscape of distributed systems. It is becoming increasingly
important to endow all such systems with built-in means for self-management,
self-protection, and self-repair.
The symposium encourages the submission of original contributions spanning
fundamental research and practical applications within its scope, covered by
the five symposium tracks:
+ Self-stabilization Track
Track Chair: Joffroy Beauquier, U. Paris-Sud, France
+ Fault-tolerance and Dependability Track
Track Chair: Nitin Vaidya, UIUC, USA
