The First International Workshop on
Ambient Intelligence for Large Premises (AmILP 2016)
http://grasia.fdi.ucm.es/amilp2016
held at the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI 2016)
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION AND AIMS
In the name of the MOSI-AGIL (Social Modelling of Ambient Intelligence for
Large Premises) project (http://www.gsi.dit.upm.es/mosi/ ), we would like to
cordially invite you to consider contributing an original research paper to
AmILP 2016, held as part of the European Conference on Artificial
Intelligence (ECAI 2016).
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is intended to provide users with systems tightly
integrated with their everyday environment and activities. The goal is
minimizing the need of explicit actions by users, through the continuous and
distributed orchestration of information and actuation devices. With the
advances in the field, AmI is pursuing growingly ambitious goals in terms of
the size and integration of its smart spaces, the number of served users,
and the level of adaptation to them.
AmILP 2016 will be focused on the particular challenges and potential
solutions that appear when AmI moves to Large Premises (LP). In this
context, new requirements consider big groups of people moving in premises
that fall beyond the classical closed and controlled environments of most
AmI systems. The ways of interaction, the expected services, and the
behaviour of people acquire a new dimension and variability in those
interconnected smart spaces. AmI systems need to adapt to the crowds using
large numbers of multiple and heterogeneous AmI resources in distributed and
frequently uncontrollable environments that cause unexpected dynamic changes
in the system topology.
TOPICS
AmILP 2016 aims at providing a forum for discussing recent advances in
engineering complex AmI systems acting in large premises. The research
emerging in this domain faces multidisciplinary issues, both technical and
social. In particular, the areas of interest are the following (not
exclusive):
Psychology of crowds
Sociology of crowds
Crowd simulation
Crowd coordination
Environment specifications and models
Inclusive design
Sensor networks
Information fusion
Machine learning
Agent-based simulation techniques and methodologies
AmI engineering driven by formal models
AmI toolkits and frameworks
AmI testing in large premises
Industrial case studies
Scalability in AmI for large premises
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Prospective authors are invited to prepare original papers formatted
according to the camera-ready style for ECAI 2016
<http://www.ecai2016.org/content/uploads/2015/10/ecai.tar.gz> . Papers
should be submitted electronically in PDF format using the EasyChair
conference management system available at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=amilp2016 .
AmILP accepts both full-length and short papers. The maximum length for
short papers is 4 pages (at least 3 pages), while for full papers the
maximum length is 8 pages (at least 5 pages). Selected full papers will be
presented at the main workshop session. Selected short papers will be
presented in a poster session.
All submissions will be reviewed on the basis of their relevance,
originality, significance, soundness and clarity. At least three referees
will review independently each submission.
PROCEEDINGS
The organizers will provide a single PDF file to be posted on the ECAI 2016
website and on the ECAI-AmILP 2016 workshop website. Moreover, the
proceedings will be published in CEUR Workshop Proceedings series
(http://ceur-ws.org). Copyright of papers remain with the authors.
JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE
We also plan to publish a special issue of an SJR and JCR-ranked journal
"Computer Science and Information Systems" of a small number of best papers
extended with at least 30 % of additional unpublished original work and
fully refereed according to the journal standards. After the conference,
authors of selected full papers will be invited to re-submit their work for
the special issue.
ATTENDANCE
For each accepted paper, at least one author must register for AmILP 2016
and participate at the workshop. Please check the ECAI 2016 website for
registration procedure, fees as well as cancellation policies.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ALGORITHMS RESEARCH AND/OR LOWER BOUNDS
Application deadline June 6, 2016. Start date negotiable but
ideally by September 2016.
This is a fixed term appointment terminating end of December 2017.
The Algorithms team in the Department of Computer Science at Bristol
University is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher in the areas
of algorithms research and/or lower bounds. The post will require a
high level of expertise in areas which may include but not be limited
to data structures/algorithms, discrete probability, discrete
mathematics and combinatorics.
Our current work focuses on pattern matching in dynamically changing
data however we also have a broader interest in other aspects of
algorithms/theory research.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in theoretical computer science
("Track A") or closely related mathematical area together with a
strong track record of international publications in algorithms or
theoretical computer science ("Track A") venues. This may include for
example, ICALP/SODA/STOC/FOCS. We welcome applications from talented
computer scientists whose main interest has been in mainstream "Track
A" theory rather than specifically pattern matching.
Please see http://bit.ly/1Zn3r0z for full details both of the post and
the application process.

Distance Geometry (DG) is a field of geometry which focuses on
defining and working with geometrical objects using distances between
points rather than the points themselves. From classical results such
as Heron's theorem, Euler's conjecture on the rigidity of polyhedra,
Maxwell's forces diagrams, and the link to positive semidefinite
matrices, DG has seen a veritable "engineering renaissance" in the XX
century. DG is used in architecture (rigidity of structures), spatial
conformation of molecules from inter-atomic distances, localization of
mobile sensors in communication networks, control of unmanned
underwater vehicles, control of robotic arms, solution of problems in
spatial logic, and more.
