The Mathematics and Operational Research department (MARO) at the
University of Mons (Belgium) invites applications for a two-year
research associate position in the area of combinatorial optimization.

The candidates are expected to:
- have completed his/her Ph.D. degree in mathematics, computer science
or related areas,
- and have strong skills in the areas of optimization and operations research.
- An experience in data filtering techniques would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will work on a new two-year funded project
where the objective is to develop an Automatic Train Control (ATC)
system. An ATC can only be deployed on trains where all parameters are
fully known. These parameters (over a hundred) are important in order
to perfectly simulate and select the best driving strategies. Our
objective is to find these parameters when the observed state of the
train (i.e. position, velocity, and acceleration) contains statistical
noise and other inaccuracies. The idea is to use some filters (like
Kalman filter) in order to reduce the noise of the measured state.

The deadline for the application is September 15, 2016.
The starting date of the position is to be decided with the applicant
but ideally on 1st January 2017.

To apply, please send, to daniel.tuyttens@umons.ac.be
- Your detailed CV with publications;
- and a covering letter;

In order to obtain further information, write to: daniel.tuyttens@umons.ac.be
